My long term goal is to become a Public Educator. I feel the need to assist the public and raise awareness of the responsibilities we as nurses assume on a daily basis. We oftentimes don't get the credit with deserve and are maligned by images perpetuated in the media. Nurse are now seen as servants, maids, and waitresses, but not the knowledgeable caregivers that we are. If i can accomplish this goal then maybe healthcare will again be about quality patient care. Instead, its now about how well we score on the after discharge surveys. I see a lot of my fellow co-workers getting out of nursing because patients have become mean, rude, and entitled. Some upper management rely more on surveys than actual care. Patients now treat a hospital/clinic visit the same as a visit to a fast food restaurant, the customer is always right.
